She Slangs Wood Co.
Founded by Tonda Thompson in the midst of a pandemic in 2020, She Slangs Wood was created to encourage people to be self-sufficient, fine and confident through woodworking. SSW hires Women Carpentry Majors from a local high school, Bradley Tech High, to learn carpentry while earning high school credits and good money.
NOW: She Slangs Wood Co. is building more than a sawmill—we’re building a complete wood manufacturing company.
Our vision is to create a warehouse where we manufacture the components people need to build, including roof trusses, sheds, walls, and custom fence panels.
Alongside our manufacturing operation, our sawmill will process and supply high-quality hardwood lumber to customers across the nation, turning locally sourced trees into valuable building materials and products.
Our woodshop will transform that lumber into beautiful, functional home goods, including tables, cabinets, cutting boards, and other custom wood products.
At She Slangs Wood Co., we want to control the process from tree to lumber, lumber to product, and product to home—creating jobs, building wealth, and showing what a modern, Black woman-owned wood manufacturing company can accomplish.

She Slangs Wood is located at Valor Creative Collective. we are a wood shop and a retail store for community members to purchase items, as well as take woodworking classes.
